Set User Rights on Sharing URL such as Flipbook, HTML and URL

Introduction

Companies sometimes want to send an electronic version of their production to their customers and providers with a pleasant user experience and overview of the catalog/magazine instead of a standard PDF or a static summary. Like a publishing company, the publishers want to show their work to their author and don't want to send a flat PDF.

Since the new version of DALIM ES, you can share a Virtual book of your publication. But you don't want your customers/providers to share pages with someone else, add enrichments, or see these pages as another user who needs to approve the documents (for example). This is why you can, with the help of the new sharing tool, add permissions to a virtual book sharing which gives the possibility to restrict the rights of the end-user who will read the publication.

In this topic, we will see how you can configure the consumer's settings and the limitations.

Ingredients Needed

So, what will you need to achieve this?

  • DALIM ES with the following license options
    • ES Core Engine (ES-5000).
    • ES Flat plan (ES-5700) to build online flatplans.
  • Some basic skills on user profile editing with DALIM ES.
  •

Step by step guide

Let's imagine you are a publisher and want to share your book with your author. You don't wish that the author shares the pages with someone else or place enrichments on them. To do so, we will create a proper user profile to adjust the permissions, and after, we will be able to build a sharing URL where the author will see the book without having access to the sharing and the enrichment.

Setup

It would be best if you had a configured user profile assigned per default to the consumer user.

Creation of the user profile

You can, in the new version of DALIM ES, edit the permissions of users and restrict their rights while watching a publication in a virtual book:

Once the user profile is adjusted, you need then to attach it per default to a user:

Creation of the Sharing

The user part is now done. We can start to share a publication and generate the URL that we will send to the consumer.

To do so, we will first go to our project and run a sharing:

The sharing window will pop up and enable you to set up the rights, the type of sharing, and finally, the start/end date. In this same window, you will be able to attach specific requests to the virtual book sharing with the help of the "View as" field.

Results

When you finish your sharing setup and press the "Ok" button, the server will send an email to the users added in the "Recipients" field.

The consumer will be able to click on the link and see the publication taking into account the "View as" permissions:
